Roger Holmes, a native of the Rio Grande Valley of Colorado and New Mexico, discovered his passion for pottery unexpectedly while studying Architecture at Texas Tech in the late 60s. Transitioning from the architectural world, he delved into the ceramic arts, spending four intensive years honing his craft.
Following his studies, Roger ventured into the art foundry industry, specializing in casting bronze statuary for twenty-five years. In 2007, he joined LHUCA as assistant manager of the Helen Dewitt Jones Clay Studio, reigniting his adoration for pottery.
Roger’s work showcases a profound affection for the landscape and textures of the region where he spent his formative years. He openly acknowledges the significant impact of both historic and modern pueblo potters on his artistic vision. Most of Rogers work is finished using alternative firing techniques such as Raku, Horse Hair, and Saggar firing.
