Michael John Baptist

Graphite, Ink, & Mixed Media on Watercolor Paper, 20 x 40 in., 2023

Michael was a former artist and electrician before losing nearly all his eyesight. We connected since we were both artists and for the first time ever, I found myself describing my work to him in only words without using a visual element.

Michael was proud to have his portrait drawn. He held up cars in the street so I could take a few reference photos and repeated his name three times to ensure I correctly titled his portrait. It hurts my heart that Michael cannot see his finished portrait on this side of life.

Michael John Baptist, we still see you.
